Custom Design: A Modern Three Stone Ring For Meg

Custom orders are my favorite type of work. I get to work one-on-one with my customers to create something new and unique and it's a great opportunity for me to flex my creative muscles.
One day I received an email from Meg, a Seattle local who wanted to meet me at my jewelry studio with her boyfriend Ben and discuss the possibility of a custom engagement ring. She mentioned she was interested in a design with rose cut diamonds which are my absolute favorite diamond to work with.
Meg scheduled an appointment to come by the studio and I showed her my selection of rose cut diamonds. My relationship with several rose cut diamond dealers allowed me to have a small assortment shipped in especially for Meg so that she could have a greater array of diamonds to choose from. I could tell that it was fun for her to be able to hold and inspect each diamond to look for the qualities that she admired most. She chose a speckled salt and pepper rose cut diamond that she wanted set between two clear rose cut diamonds. A modern take on the traditional three stone ring style!

To begin the custom design process, I sent Meg a digital rendering of the  idea she described to me. A rendering is a three-dimensional mock-up of a jewelry design. It allowed me to show Meg what her ring was going to look like before we committed to the design in gold. Meg had the opportunity to make any adjustments to the design while the ring was still a rendering.
Meg approved the ring and next it was cast and polished and then the diamonds were set.

She requested sharper "claw" prongs that were a beautiful and feminine embellishment.

After the ring was finished I couldn't stop trying it on! It had wonderful weight and proportions and the diamonds really sparkled because of their larger faceting style. I made sure to take a video of it in the glowing morning light in my jewelry studio. Sorry the video is upside down!
Ben proposed to Meg on top of Mount Ellinor on the Olympic Peninsula of Washington State.

They were high up in the clouds and they were even accompanied by mountain goats!
